Storytelling

I love good stories. Stories so relatable they make you wonder if the author has a camera hidden in your kitchen. A podcast so engaging that you sit in the driveway and finish it before hustling into the grocery store. A book so enthralling that you look up and it’s 3 AM, but you just can’t stop.

I consider it a privilege to help brands think through the why of what they do and tell their customers those stories. It brings me joy to ensure those stories include and celebrate people across racial groups, sexual identities, faith backgrounds, physical and mental abilities, all age, and the spectrum of socioeconomic backgrounds.

When I’m not telling stories in the corporate space, I write (true) stories about faith, politics, race, motherhood, and other uncomfortable stuff.

About

At seventeen, I wrote a letter to my local newspaper outlining the case for why the Confederate Flag didn’t belong at our state house in South Carolina. To my surprise, the letter was published. Decades later, I’m still advocating for everyone’s story to be told, for everyone’s perspective to be included, and for everyone’s value to be respected.

As a marketer, I am keenly committed to storytelling that centers those often left in the margins - underrepresented racial/ethnic/religious groups, the LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities, and people across socioeconomic groups.

As a writer, I strive to highlight relatable experiences that we often discuss in the group chat but rarely in public such as the guilt associated with offloading parenting to a caregiver or the challenges of being an outspoken pro choice Christian.

As a D&I advocate and consultant both within the corporate space and with my clients, I am fully committed to helping my executive and senior-level clients better understand how to navigate our increasingly multicultural work environments.

In all roles, I recognize there is more to learn and more to experience. The time people spend with my words, insights or work is a gift I don’t take for granted.

After living in Washington, DC and Los Angeles, California, I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. My roots are in a rural neighborhood called Little Africa, South Carolina. I was educated at Howard University and followed up with a master’s in communication management at the University of Southern California. I love NPR, Thai food, and spending time with my partner and our three children.
